PAPDIS versions 1.0 and 1.1

PAPDIS stands for Payroll and Pension Data Integration Standard. As the name suggests, the idea of a PAPDIS file is that it captures all the data that could possibly be required to process data submissions between any combination of payroll software and pension provider. 

There are two versions of PAPDIS and the full data specifications of both are attached to this article. 

PensionSync accepts PAPDIS 1.0 and PAPDIS 1.1 with additional flexibility:

- If you miss out any of the columns, PensionSync can still process the file for you, as long as it has all the data the particular pension provider you're sending the file to considers to be mandatory.

- If you use a slight variation of any of the specified column headers, PensionSync can recognise and accept most variations as long as it is clear what the intended field is. 

- If any of the columns are in a different order to the data specification, PensionSync will still recognise them, based on the column headers, so your file will be able to be processed. 

PensionSync Variation - AssessmentCode and EventCode for non-members

PensionSync operates a slight variation in the AssessmentCode and EventCode process compared to the PAPDIS standard. This is to be able to identify any employees not in the pension scheme, if you are sending all employees to PensionSync.

 

For any employee not in the pension scheme - whether it is wrong age, too low pay, in postponement, already opted out... we would expect the

 

AssessmentCode to be left blank
EventCode = 0

 

We did this as it appeared a gap in PAPDIS to be able to differentiate between an employee previously enrolled and continuing to pay contributions (e.g. AssessmentCode = 2, EventCode = 0) and a employee not in the scheme (e.g. AssessmentCode = 2, EventCode = 0) who would not required by lots of the pension providers (Nest, People's Pension, Aviva...).

 

We use the fields the same way as PAPDIS for all other common occurrences (using AC for AssessmentCode, EC for EventCode):

 

New AutoEnrolment: AC = 1, EC = 1

New opt in: AC = 1 or 2, EC = 2

New joiner of an Entitled worker: AC = 3, EC = 3

Eligible jobholder continuing to contribute after being enrolled in a previous period: AC = 1, EC = 0

Non-eligible jobholder continuing to contribute after being enrolled in a previous period: AC = 2, EC = 0

Entitled worker continuing to contribute after being enrolled in a previous period: AC = 3, EC = 0

 

Which pension providers can I use PAPDIS for? 

Any - PensionSync will convert the PAPDIS file to the pension provider's required format for you. 

Do I have to use PAPDIS? 

No, PensionSync accepts a range of data formats, including Nest and People's Pension file formats.
