Your PensionSync submission to Smart Pension might fail if they don't have External IDs for all of the employees on their system. If this happens you will get the following error message:
Your submission cannot be processed because some of the worker records already present at the pension provider Smart Pension are missing a value for the 'external_id' field. Please log in to your Smart Pension portal account and add the missing 'external_id' values before issuing your submission again.
This happens because Smart Pension use the External ID to help identify the employee in the PensionSync submission. The External ID they hold in their system should normally match the employee's payroll reference.
If any employees are missing External IDs, it is quick and easy to add them on the Smart Pension website. Simply go to the Employee's record and enter an External ID:
(For ease - You are able to export an employee report which includes a column for the External ID - this is found within Scheme set up > Employees > Export)
